It’s worth its weight in gold. Going to a concert can be expensive. The opposite is true at this venue in downtown Boston. The Red Room at Cafe 939 is owned and operated by Berklee College of Music. Students regularly perform here and work behind the scenes. Which channel was it? 12. Venue Manager Michael Kramer. Some shows are free to the public during the week, while others are ticketed. Ready, ready, ready, ready. It gives the public a chance to appreciate different types of music and explore things they have never heard before. It’s not hard to believe that she will be on stage with her students. Farai Malek is an assistant professor in the Ensemble Department at Berkeley. Supporting artists is so important, but I don’t think there are many opportunities for people to hear and experience art at an affordable price. Also, many of the venues are expensive, so there are not many opportunities for students and young people to perform. Berklee College junior Mia Waltz will take center stage in this free Roots Roadshow performance. I’m from Berlin, Germany. I usually like my original music to be similar to alternative pop-soul music. Please have mercy, Dr. Farai. She was like, “Hey, I think your voice would work really well in a country ensemble.” Would you like to join us? So I tried it and loved it! It’s so much fun. The Roots Program is a program that provides students with the ability to learn about rural culture and American history through music. It includes bluegrass, early jazz, and other country and American roots music, making it a perfect addition to the Red Room’s affordable concert series. This music was for the people, for the common people. In art in today’s world. It is very academic and institutionalized. So I think we need to bring that art back down to earth in many ways, in terms of access to the public. Everyone needs to know what’s going on with that perspective that Berkeley student Rosa Jacobs appealed to. It makes me think about making music accessible to everyone, not just those of us who are immersed in it. There are so many really great venues in Berkeley. This is really great practice for getting on a bigger stage. Everyone needs to know what’s going on. Café Nine, Three Nines and Red Room offer hip-hop, electronic, dance music, jazz and more. The Red Room also hosts ticketed shows by internationally known artists. Some of them are Berklee alumni. One such artist is Grammy-nominated Charlie Puth, who graduated from Berklee College in 2013. That’s tonight’s Chronicle. Thank you very much for your participation. I’m Shayna Seymour. Let’s meet
