The long-term standoff between former Speaker Mudasir Obasa and 32 members of the Lagos State Legislature may soon be resolved through political intervention.
A source close to both Congress and President Bola Tinubu, who spoke on the condition of Businessday’s anonymity, revealed on January 13, 2025 that Obasa’s ammo each had no president’s support.
Naija News understands that the Lagos Congress has been caught up in a leadership battle following the election as the first female speaker of the Obasa blunder each and subsequently Mojisora Melanda’s house.
The situation escalated on Monday when operatives from the State Department Services (DSS) and Nigerian Police sealed the chair’s office, leading to protests by legislative workers.
While talking about the crisis, the source said, “They disdained Baba. They didn’t take him. Baba isn’t happy that they removed Obasa, so he said he was saying. I want to get it back.
“Look what’s going on for Obasa. The house is split. Members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) are divided into themselves, and there are splits here and there. This is for everyone. Not good. There was no need for Congressional invasion by the State Department (DSS). Some members criticized the existence of the DSS, while saying that the DSS was invited. No one knows the truth.”
Worried about the development, sources said activities in the assembly and executive arm could be adversely affected.
“The impact of what’s going on may be negative about the overall governance of Lagos State. For example, the house has postponed the sign die. Doesn't that affect the work of executives? No crisis in any society is in any way Not good. It affects development. If there is no peace, there is an arrested development.
“In the final analysis, it’s the guy (Tinubu) who solves it. After all, all the people in the House of Representatives are one politician’s children,” the source said.
