Zamfara State Secretary for Information and Culture, Muazu Haidara Kaura, has reportedly resigned to participate in the upcoming local government elections in the state.
According to DAILY POST, Kaura made the decision after the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) fixed the local government elections in the state for November 16, 2024.
Naija News recalls that the newly appointed chairman, Bala Aliyu Gusau, announced the election schedule last week.
Gusau was sworn in as ZASIEC Chairman by the Chief Justice of the State, Justice Kulu Aliyu, represented by Mr. Mukhtar Yushau of the Zamfara State High Court, at a ceremony held at the Council Room of the Government House in Gusau. He said: Sales and expression of interest forms will be submitted from October 25, 2024 to November 1, 2024.
The state’s ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has since announced that it will start campaigning across the state and begin selling nomination forms for both the chairman and municipal council elections on October 25.
Meanwhile, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is yet to issue any official announcement regarding the elections.
However, National APC Secretary Ibrahim Umar Dangaladima told journalists on Wednesday that they were awaiting a decision from the party’s national leadership.
He said the party would clarify whether it would participate in the election and would communicate this decision to its many supporters.
