The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu has upheld the judgment of the High Court that invalidated Mr. Samuel Anyanwu’s post as National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Court of Appeal also upheld Ude Okoye as the substantive national secretary of the main opposition party.
The tribunal, in its lead judgment handed down by Justice Ridwan Abdullahi on Friday, said Anyanwu’s claim to the PDP secretaryship after contesting and running as the PDP governorship candidate was in violation of the party’s constitution and that he said the appeal was without merit.
Reacting to the judgment, Ideato North/South House of Representatives member Imo Ikenga Ugochinyere described the judgment as a victory for democracy.
In a statement on Friday afternoon, Ugotinyere noted that the judgment upheld the constitution of the PDP.
A spokesperson for the opposition coalition of parliamentarians added that the opposition coalition will support Mr. Okoye to ensure success during his term.
