Arts, Culture and Creative Economy Minister Hannatu Msawa on Sunday spoke out about the controversy over his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and asserted his legal position on the issue.
Mr Musawa appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today and responded to a question on the matter, saying: “I have not broken any laws.”
Recall that the minister faced criticism for failing to provide evidence of participation in the compulsory NYSC system during his Senate confirmation review.
However, in April 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the case against her, with Justice James Omotosho ruling that the plaintiff had no legal standing to take the matter to court. With this ruling, Msawa declared the matter legally resolved.
On the issue, Mr Musawa said he would focus on his responsibilities in the administration rather than getting involved in the controversy.
“This matter has already been decided and someday I will come out with my explanation. Probably I have done more NYSC than you (presenter). I have done at least twice in my life I went through the NYSC.
“I think what I need to do to Nigerians is to say I haven’t done anything wrong. I haven’t broken any laws. The NYSC that I did is over. All I can say is this: Everything I did was in accordance with the law.
“That is why I also said that one day I will reveal what happened to set the record straight. For now, it is important for me to focus on delivering deliverables to Nigerians.” I think so,” she said.
