Congressman Ado Dogwa (APC, Kano State) is at odds with Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso over the assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s performance during his 16 months in office.
Mr Doguwa addressed the press in Abuja on Friday, expressing his differences with Mr Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections.
While speaking at a political rally in Kano State, Mr Kwankwaso reportedly said: “Nigerians, especially Northerners, are fed up with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and intend to change it in the 2027 presidential election. “That’s it,” he said.
Reacting, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Mr Dogwa, said Tinubu was laying the foundation for Nigeria’s prosperity.
Doguwa, who represents Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency in Kano State, said Kwankwaso does not have the moral authority to speak for the people of North Korea.
“As everyone knows, President Tinubu is leaving no stone unturned in his quest to return our country to the path of progress and prosperity for the benefit of all.
“President Tinubu reduced the debt service ratio from 97% to 68% and maintained foreign exchange reserves at $37 billion.
“Just this week, an economic stabilization bill was introduced in Congress to stimulate our productive capacity and create more jobs and prosperity at home.
“In the area of security, the government has eliminated over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders, including Kachala Khalil Subbu, who terrorized the people of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna for over five years. he stated.
“In view of the onslaught against these bandits, fresh air is already permeating the North West. Our people are now returning to their farms,” he said.
Doguwa, a leading member of the House of Representatives, said Tinubu took over the leadership of the country 16 months ago when the economy was in dire straits on all fronts.
He said since Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, he has worked diligently to correct the fiscal misalignment that is plaguing the country’s economic slump.
Mr Doguwa said under President Tinubu, the country had attracted more than $30 billion in foreign direct investment in 16 months.
He said President Tinubu had paid the foreign exchange balance of $7 billion and liquidated over N30 trillion of means and instruments inherited from the previous administration.
The lawmaker expressed optimism that the president’s interventions will bear fruit and the challenges facing the country will be resolved in the coming months.
Mr Doguwa commended Mr Tinubu for establishing the North West Development Commission to facilitate the reconstruction and restructuring of the geopolitical zone which is the food basket of our country.
He said Mr Kwankwaso’s assessment of the Tinubu-led federal government was an indication that the defeated NNPP candidate had not recovered from his defeat.
Mr Doguwa said irrespective of Mr Kwankwaso’s comments, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State was ready to topple the NNPP government in the state by 2027.
