The PDP has announced that it has filed a petition with the Election Petitions Tribunal challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Edo governorship election.
PDP State Chairman, Dr. Anthony Ajigbemi, disclosed this during a press conference in Benin on Monday.
Mr Agiegbemi said the party filed the petition despite not having access to election materials.
“We filed a petition on behalf of Edo people at the Electoral Court even though we were not allowed to view the election materials.
“Rest assured, the journey to reclaim our mission has begun, and by the grace of God your mission will be restored.
“Many of you, and indeed all Edo kids, must have wondered why we did not engage you after the saddest day in the history of Edo State.
“Following the exemplary performance of Governor Godwin Obaseki, this is the day your mandate and right to freely choose your leadership for the next four years was stolen from you,” he said.
On behalf of the PDP, the Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all Edo people who came together to vote for the PDP on September 21 despite militarization and financial inducements.
“We are here to let you know that your vote finally counts. I voted.
“Your determination is proof of your desire for true democracy in Edo.
“Then the unthinkable happened and your vote was thrown out. You were being compromised and they thought they could silence your choice.
“We want you to know that we hear your voice and that we will support you to the end to ensure your vote is respected,” he added.
According to him, the journey to reclaim our mission has begun, and by the grace of God your mission will be returned. Justice is on our side and we remain steadfast in this fight.
On the allegation that the PDP obstructed the inspection of election materials at the INEC office, Mr Agiegbemi said there was no reason for the PDP to obstruct the process they sought.
