The much-awaited hearing of the Edo State Electoral Petitions Tribunal unexpectedly ended on Monday following the application of the first and second respondents, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Governor Okpeboro on Monday. Postponed.
The respondents sought an adjournment of the Supreme Court hearing scheduled for Tuesday, January 14, in Abuja, to Wednesday, January 15, 2025, citing conflicts.
The Assistant Tribunal read out the application during the opening session, emphasizing the respondent’s contention about prior undertakings.
The petitioner’s legal team said it was only informed of the request on January 12 and expressed concern about the short notice of the postponement.
However, it agreed to postpone the case on the condition that further delays would not impede the court’s hearing.
With the adjournment, court proceedings are scheduled to resume on Wednesday.
Outside the court, PDP member Goodluck Osaretin expressed his disappointment. “This is more of a delaying tactic, similar to their previous attempts to block the inspection of our BVAS machines.Nonetheless, we have confidence in Asue Lawyers’ experienced legal team. They may delay justice but they cannot deny it. APC colluded with INEC to rig this election and we are here to reclaim the mandate that was stolen. ”
