Shef Sani, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senate District, argued that the exile of former Kaduna governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, is a good obstacle from All Progressives Congress (APC) to Social Democrats (SDP).
Naija News reports that Elrufai has officially resigned from the APC and joined the Social Democrats (SDP), citing irreconcilable differences with the ruling leaders.
In his resignation letter filed on Monday in his ward in Kaduna, El Rufai expressed disappointment at the APC trajectory in recent years.
In an interview on today’s Channel TV Politics on Monday, March 10, 2025, Shef Sani argued that El Rufai’s resignation was necessary as his leaders weakened the APC’s impact in Kaduna state for many years.
He said the exit for El Rufai is an opportunity for governor, Uba Sani and APC leaders to embrace the people of the state and reset their party for the next election.
He said, “For us in Kaduna, he stands as a responsibility to the state's party, so it’s a good loot because I can back this up with facts. In 2015, the APC had two senators. By 2023, all Senate zones were taken over by the PDP. And under Nasir, of the 14 House seats in Kaduna, almost nine were won by the PDP, two were won by the LP, and then three were won by the APC. As he and the governor, the APC also lost the state presidential election.
“By the way he leaves, we can see that the party was an unpopular platform in the state, so his exit is an opportunity for the governor and leader of the state to embrace the people of the state and restructure and reset the party for the next election.”
