South Beach’s Azteca nightclub has become a venue for up-and-coming artists from independent labels Visual and Infinifox.
Vizual, a company led by Víctor Zambrano, a famous producer of Mexican regional music who was instrumental in the rise of Karín León, introduced the audience to one of the new promises of Corridos Tumbados: Hector Rubio. Rubio recently joined Mexican star Peso Pluma, with whom he co-starred in “Se Volbierón Locos,” for 10 dates on the Mexican star’s Exodus tour. He has also written songs performed by artists such as Alex Favela, Grupo Selectivo, Octavio Cuadras, and Yeri Mua.
Also from Vizual, Arsenal Effectivo showed a unique fusion style of trap and corrido. The Mexican-American band started in 2015, shortly after their debut album En La Fuga reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Mexican regional album chart.
Infinifox also introduced two talents. One of them is Juan Carlos “El Conde” who has written songs for artists such as Banda MS and Chuy Lizárraga. Charrería expert El Conde’s offer includes romantic songs accompanied by bands and mariachis, as well as horse shows. He recently released the song “A Rienda Suelta,” in collaboration with Bronco vocalist Lupe Esparza, and performed solo on Una Noche de Música Mexicana.
Cumbia group La Sonora Vainilla added a cheerful touch to the evening with its versatility. Formed in the Mexican state of Jalisco, they have established themselves in the United States and continue to grow their following.
“Una Noche de Música Mexicana” was a journey through different musical currents, from trap to corridos tumbados, traditional styles and even cumbia. He has been a major promoter of Mexican regional music for nearly 30 years and currently serves as president of the association Promotores Unidos USA.
