Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Rt. Bishop Kennedy Azubuike Njoku has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.
Mr Njoku, who previously represented Osisioma Ngwa North State Constituency in the 7th House of Assembly, resigned as Speaker after the PDP brokered a compromise allowing the Rt. My lord. Mr. Chinedum Orji, son of the former governor of Abia, will take over the position.
Mr Njoku, who spoke at his rural home in Mbutu Nta village in Osisioma local government area, said the decision to leave the PDP was taken after thorough consultation with voters and stakeholders in the state.
“I am grateful to PDP for giving me the opportunity and wish me all the best in my future endeavors,” Njoku said.
He called on his supporters to join the APC, assuring that those willing to work hard would be given better opportunities. Quoting an Igbo proverb, he said, “Onye luo ya eli” (He who works eats), demonstrating his belief in merit-based rewards within the new party.
Njoku’s defection was supported by prominent stakeholders, including Komul. Odimegwu Aruru, Chief of Staff, Bishop Campaign Organisation; Comr. Emmanuel Nduagwu, former Chairman of the Osisioma Ngwa Youth Council. And Mr. Hon. Austin Uluakpa, former leader of Osisioma Ngwa Legislative Council;
In their remarks, the officials urged Njoku’s supporters to register as APC members in their respective wards, stressing that the move heralds a new dawn for the people.
The former lawmaker assured his supporters that his transfer to APC was motivated by the vision of securing a brighter future for Osisioma Gwa Local Government Area and Abia State.
Comr. Isiala Osokwa Ward 6 youth leader Oliver Christian praised Njoku’s bold decision and pledged full support on behalf of the youth.
