Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes shared a message with members announcing the death of former pastor Beau Schroyer. Schroyer, 44, was killed on October 25 in Angola, South Africa, during what the church called a “riot.” He was living in Angola with his wife and five children, where he is currently doing missionary work, the church said.
ANGOLA (FOX 9) – The former pastor of Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, was murdered while serving a mission in South Africa.
what we know Troy Easton, the church’s senior pastor, said in an update: “Our dear brother and friend Beau Schroyer died on Friday, October 25th, while serving Jesus in Angola, Africa. He was killed in an act of violence.”
Details of his death remain unknown. But the church said it would consider providing comfort to Schroyer’s wife and five children while they grieve.
Schroyer, 44, is a former pastor at Lakes Area Vineyard Church and moved to Angola with his family in 2021 after becoming a missionary with SIM USA, an evangelical organization based in North Carolina.

According to the Detroit Lakes Tribune, Schroyer joined the Detroit Lakes Police Department in 2013 and then became a real estate agent before going into ministry.
In a social media post the day before his death, Schroyer wrote on Facebook about encountering a young student on his way to school, explaining that the Nineka people we serve are among the most marginalized people in the world. This is one of the reasons why it is one of the Angola” was lack of access to education.
“Please pray for Mauricio and others like him who spend half their day walking to and from school,” the post reads.
In a previous post, he detailed “hand-spreading fertilizer on a 40×16 meter field” as part of the daily tasks he accomplished in Angola.
