Delta State Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads and Publicity, Charles Aniagu, said Governor Obolewori has not shown any interest in leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDD).
According to Aniagwu, Governor Oblevwuori had no intention of jumping from one political party to another.
Naija News reported that the Commissioner stated this in an interview with Arise News on Friday.
He said the governor was focused on providing good governance to the people of Delta State.
“Obolewori is not only a proud member of the PDP. He is also a proven governor. Jumping is not Obolewori’s day job,” he said.
The former spokesperson of the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign organization has explained that the crisis hitting his party will not be the death of the party.
He added that the PDP is the only party that cares about the country and will continue to be the dominant opposition party amidst the current challenges.
“For those who think PDP is going to go extinct, I think that is the culmination of a malaria dream.
“PDP is very concerned about the growth of this country and not the selfish interests of people within the party. To that extent, we are a very viable opposition party committed to the growth of this country. It will continue,” he said.
Mr. Anigwu, who spoke on local government autonomy, emphasized that Governor Obrebwori had maintained local government autonomy even before the Supreme Court judgment.
He said newly elected city council presidents met their federal quotas as they were when they returned to work.
He said it was former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who started the tradition of fiscal autonomy for local governments.
“In Delta State, for a short period of time between the departure of the last local government and the arrival of a new one, all the funds that were supposed to go to the local government were used to tell the story of who the Obolewwori were. “It was used for about a month,” and the man kept it for them.
“Our own self-government has nothing to do with Supreme Court decisions. Our own self-government is a product of our understanding of politics and democracy, which was started by Mr. Okowa, a former member of parliament, and by Obolewori. He is trying to strengthen it and give us more autonomy. We will not even interfere with them,” he added.
