The National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Victor Giadom, has disowned party members claiming to be candidates for the upcoming Rivers State local government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024.
Naija News reports that the Rivers State APC Chairman, Mr. Emeka Beke, on Wednesday presented flags to 21 chairmanship candidates in the local government council elections.
This comes as the factional chairman of the APC in the state, Tony Okocha, insists that the party will not participate in the upcoming elections.
Reacting, Mr Guiadom said the APC would not participate in what he termed a “sham” election.
He called on the people to ignore anyone claiming to be an APC candidate.
“Our party is a law-abiding party. And as a law-abiding party, we will always abide by the rules,” he said in a statement. There is a conflict.
“You are aware that Rivers State has a Local Government Act.
“The law states that it is its responsibility to determine the process of how local government elections in Rivers State are conducted.
“There has been a national abuse of this law. It is unacceptable. For example, I have heard that some people in Rivers State are flaunting that they are candidates of the All Progressives Congress.
“Where was it shown? Where did the show determine the election process that was advertised?
“Were there forms purchased by those candidates? Where are the receipts from when they purchased the forms? Who reviewed them?
“So please ignore those parading to participate in the so-called elections in Rivers State. They are not members of the All Progressives Congress and we do not know they are conducting elections.”
