Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has taken to social media to lament the high number of police and military checkpoints on roads in the South East.
According to a report by TheNewsGuru.com (TNG), the veteran revealed through his Instagram page on Wednesday that he recently traveled along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and did not see any military or police checkpoints. .
He noted that commuters using roads in the southeast are unable to travel within 200 meters as they experience harassment and humiliation by security personnel at various checkpoints.
The film star and producer also questioned whether the number of checkpoints was motivated by hatred towards indigenous peoples in the southeast.
He said, “This morning I left Felere Olorunshogo area of Ibadan at about 7:15am.It is now exactly 8:15am and I am in Lagos. I didn’t see any checkpoints, police checkpoints or army checkpoints. Have you ever driven on the Onitsha/Enugu Expressway? Have you ever counted?
“Why is the South East so militarized that you can’t go more than 200 meters without police checkpoints? The reason I have to ask this question is to point out the delays in journeys and the humiliation people experience. Because there is a need. How many police checkpoints and collection points? They humiliate our people so much that in most cases people in cars are asked to get out and raise their hands. Is this hate? Is this not good? Is the South East still part of Nigeria?”
