Jelly Roll's path to near-ubiquitous stardom was full of challenges. The “Need a Favor” singer, who grew up in East Tennessee, cycled in and out of prison during his teens and 20s. In an attempt to break into the hip-hop scene, the 39-year-old megastar (real name Jason Deford) sold mixtapes from his car. His international breakthrough came in 2023 with the release of his domestic debut, Whitsitt Chapel. Now at the height of their fame, Jelly Roll recently threatened to expose the “slimy” music industry in two tweets.
Jelly Roll: The music industry is “smoke and mirrors”
On Friday afternoon (October 18th), Jelly Roll appeared on X/Twitter and went on a cryptic rant about the music industry.
“I learned a lot this week about how slimy the music business is. Don’t worry I’ll expose it soon,” the “Winning Streak” hitmaker wrote. “This whole thing is smoke and mirrors. Everything Russ is saying is true!”

grammy award nominee probably mentioned New Jersey rapper Russ recently lashed out online for his “problems” with the state of music journalism.
Two days later, Jelly Roll’s post had 8.4 million views, including from child star Corey Feldman. “I think I might know what you’re talking about…the darkness is within,” the Lost Boys star wrote.

Jelly Roll: “The Mountain Out of a Molehill”
For those who don’t know, Corey Feldman has been pretty open about his painful experiences with sexual abuse in Hollywood. However, jelly roll hopped back X/Twitter on Saturday (October 19), he clarified that he was not referring to the sinister plot that many fans seemed to be speculating.

“You made a mountain out of a molehill with this,” the Entertainer of the Year nominee wrote. “All those weirdly dramatic comments about selling your soul and all this weird shit like the devil is totally weird. LOL. I’ll be talking about all of this on my wife’s podcast soon.”
