Nigerian economist and former Central Bank Deputy Governor Kingsley Moghalu has been appointed as the first president of the newly established African School of Governance (ASG).
The announcement comes as the African School of Governance Foundation (ASGF) announced the establishment of a postgraduate institution, the African School of Governance. Prominent African leaders have come together to launch this initiative, which aims to transform the continent’s leadership landscape by addressing the diverse needs of leaders across Africa.
As ASG’s first President, Professor Kingsley Mogul, a globally recognized leader in the field of public policy and governance, will lead ASG towards its ambitious goals.
Professor Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has held senior positions in the United Nations system for 17 years and has taught at prestigious educational institutions such as Harvard University, Oxford University and the Fletcher School at Tufts University. He is also the author of several books, including the critically acclaimed Emerging Africa: How the ‘last frontier’ of the global economy is thriving and important.
Commenting on the appointment, Makhtar Diop, IFC Managing Director and Chairman of the ASG Board of Directors, said that Mr. Moghal will be a great addition to ASG.

ASG aims to address the continent’s pressing governance challenges by equipping emerging leaders with the mindset, skills and knowledge they need to provide effective leadership in Africa's future. This initiative brings together visionaries working to build sustainable governance models rooted in African realities.
The ASG Initiative is a collaboration between His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, and His Excellency Hailemariam Desalegn, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia (both co-founders of the ASG Foundation), along with other African leaders, academics, and others dedicated to improving governance across African countries.
