Gene Simmons spent his career playing bass for KISS, but he doesn’t consider himself a virtuoso and is perfectly content with that.
He told Guitar World that he was not a fan of virtuosity, believing it was just "musical ostentation.”
“I don’t consider myself a bass virtuoso, and I’ve never had any interest in being a bass virtuoso,” he says. “I don’t like ostentation in music. I’m more attracted to memorable things. That’s part of the joy of music for me.”
He targeted jazz bassists, pointing out that no matter how respected they were, “the rest of the world doesn’t care,” adding, “I’m going to play a game. Jazz player names that mean something.” ,” he added.
He also criticized Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, saying, “Guys like Flea are very good at instruments, but I don’t remember anything he played. I don’t even like the sound of it.” I slapped you. ”
Simmons seems to want to keep things simple, but he doesn’t think it’s easy.
“The hardest thing is writing good simple songs and riffs,” he says. “That’s really difficult.”
