The Labor Party (LP) has vehemently denied allegations that it was secretly working for President Bola Tinubu ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifor, added that it does not have any form of alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Labor Party made this clarification in response to a viral video of Deji Adeyanju in which his lawyer claimed that the opposition party was bought by President Tinubu and the APC.
While denying the allegations, LP also demanded an apology from Adeyanju, calling his post criminal defamation.
The lawyer accused him of making derogatory remarks against the party and its leaders, especially the national chairman, barrister Julius Habre.
The party called on Adeyanju to either provide evidence to support his claims or retract his statement and apologize for the harm caused.
“The Labor Party is the most visible opposition party today and our national chairman, Barrister Habré, is the leading voice of the opposition and is highly critical of the current government,” Mr Ifor said.
The Labor Party has vowed to build on its gains in the 2023 elections and challenge the status quo of Nigeria’s political landscape, while continuing to criticize the government and offer workable solutions.
Mr. Ifor warned Mr. Adeyanju not to make any more “defensive and callous” statements against the party.
“Mr Adeyanju’s allegations are causing serious damage to the Labor Party and we urge him to desist from further actions that could damage the party’s reputation.
“We view his viral comments as criminal defamation and demand that he either provide evidence or apologize to the leadership and millions of Labor members,” Mr Ifor said.
