Former Deputy National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, said when the PDP was formed, he thought the party would rule forever.
Agbo said this in an interview with Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday while discussing the mechanisms the party has in place to resolve the internal crisis.
He said: “The mechanism is working. We have seen the worst. Before, we had two secretariats. How can we say this is the worst? Now we have one secretariat. Previously, police and soldiers guarded the office.
“Tell me this when you are in a position, especially when you have never organized opposition. When the PDP was formed in 1998 and started governing. We are so settled that we will rule forever. But nothing is forever.
“We tried our best. Remember where we led the county in 16 years. All of a sudden, Nigerians are on board with change, but where is that change? Ours? Some people have to be blamed for that.”
Governors elected under the PDP held an important meeting on Tuesday night to address the infighting that has plagued the party in recent months.
The governors discussed the issue of the position of the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, causing division within the party and the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
