John Oates was a featured performer at this year’s Ozone Songwriters Festival, held Oct. 25-27 in Covington. Oates attended the festival’s opening showcase at Furman Auditorium, where the veteran rocker performed songs from his solo catalog and the musicians who influenced his illustrious career.
Oates is best known for his half-century musical partnership with Daryl Hall, and the two had an astonishing 29 US Top 40 hits during their time together. Both are members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Recently, Oates has collaborated with numerous artists, including established stars and up-and-coming talent. He interjected stories from throughout his career into his performance in Covington, and VIP guests enjoyed a short performance before the entire concert.
The final two days of the festival featured dozens of songwriters from across the country who were given the opportunity to share their work on various stages in and around the Covington Trailhead.
The festival is organized annually by the nonprofit Ozone Music Education Foundation. For more information, go online to ozonemusic.org.
