Grand Funk Railroad Thursday, Nov. 7, 7:30 p.m., Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St.
I tend to be pretty skeptical of the zombie versions of classic rock bands that operate endlessly on the state fair and casino circuits, sometimes with the tenuousest connections to their namesakes. But the version of Grand Funk Railroad that’s coming to our town to party at the Mount Baker Theater on Thursday, November 7th features two of the three original members and a mostly stable I have to admit it looks pretty legit in the lineup. For the past 25 years.
Cuarto Sueño Friday, Nov. 8, 8-10 p.m., Honeymoon, 1053 N. State St.
Trio Sueño has been around for a while, with guitarist BJ Block, bassist Tom Anastasio, and percussionist Steve Jones playing an ear-pleasing mix of jazz and flamenco. They recently teamed up with guitar virtuoso Jacob Thayer to form Cuarto Suegno, which will be the lineup for Honeymoon on Friday, November 8th.
Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Jeffrey Foucault will perform at the New Prospect Theater on Sunday, November 10th. (Photo by Joe Navas) Analog Brass Saturday, November 9th, 6-8pm, Greens Corner, 2208 James St.
Analog Brass is a local interpretation of the modern brass band sound, mixing elements of funk, hip-hop, and pop with some strong political sensibilities. Their first album was “Songs from the Protest Route,” but there are rumors that they are working on a new album. They plan to rock it up at Greene’s Corner on Saturday, November 9th.
Jeffrey Foucalt Sunday, November 10th, 7:30-9:30pm, New Prospect Theatre, 207 Prospect St.
Geoffrey Foucault is a Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter who has been in the music industry almost continuously for 20 years. His music is rooted in folk, with plenty of blues, rock, and country influences. He’s touring with his beautiful new album, The Universal Fire, featuring members of Calexico and Bon Iver, and will be at the New Prospect Theater on the 19th. On Sunday, November 10th, Erik Koskinen will be joining us on guitar. This venue is one of the best places in town to see performers whose lyrics make you want to pay attention.
