Corsana By the Watts, Disaster Queen, The Scene Tuesday, Oct. 22, 8 p.m., The Shakedown, 1212 N. State St.
Joe Byza (Saccharine Trust) and Mike Watt (Minutemen, Firehose) are both heroes of the ’80s California punk scene. They form a new instrumental trio with drummer Chris Corsano and are touring for the first time. Expect intense improvisation on the avant-garde side at Shakedown on Tuesday, October 22nd. Local openers Disaster Queen and The Scene begin the match.
Jenner Fox Thursday, October 24th 7:30pm-9pm, New Prospect Theater, 207 Prospect St.
Jenner Fox is an accomplished singer-songwriter based in Seattle who has earned Honorary Bellingham Star status by consistently performing here and collaborating with local musicians. His latest album, a duet with guitarist Jeremy Elliott (ex-Polecat), was recorded here. I suspect there will be a lot of guests attending his show at the New Prospect Theater on Thursday, October 24th.
Halloween Cover Show Saturday, October 26th, 6pm to 11:30pm, Make.Shift, 306 Flora St.
The Make.Shift cover show is held twice a year and serves at least three purposes. They raise money for that important organization, gather a group of new musicians for a short-term band, thereby building community, and having a lot of fun. This year’s Halloween edition takes place on October 26th and features a one-night-only lineup of nine bands that pay homage to your favorite spooky punk and metal bands, including Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, The Misfits, and many more .
Gail Pettis Sunday, October 27th, 4-6pm, FireHouse Arts and Events Center, 1314 Harris Ave.
Gail Pettis is one of Seattle’s finest straight-ahead jazz singers, equally adept at gentle ballads and lively up-tempo swing. She will be at the Firehouse for an afternoon show hosted by The Jazz Project on Sunday, October 27th, accompanied by a piano trio featuring top locals including Blake Angelos, Jeff Johnson, and Judd Sherwood. I will appear.
