The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa of neglecting the health sector.
In a statement on Monday, the opposition lamented the dire state of health facilities in the state since Mr Ayedattiwa took over as governor 10 months ago.
Kennedy Peretei, the party’s communications secretary, said the state is facing a shortage of doctors and other health workers as neighboring states are poaching doctors from the state with attractive packages.
Peretei noted that the state was once a medical tourism destination for many people in the southwest.
He added that the situation was more pronounced in rural areas of the state, as they were the hardest hit by the worsening health crisis in the state.
He said, “No doubt, Mother Luck smiled upon him to survive the gubernatorial impeachment turmoil and dramatically elevate him to the exalted position of governor after the death of his boss, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu.”
“That Mr. Ayedatiwa’s good fortune did not see him beyond his prospects for office is clear from what has happened to health facilities and personnel in the state. Some have gone public with their unfortunate stories. However, there are some who endure suffering by asking God for help.
“In February this year, the Nigerian Medical Association revealed that while serving Prime Minister John Johnson, Lucky Aiyedatiwa gave seven days’ notice before embarking on a strike, exposing the unacceptable current situation in the health sector. Ondo Medical The university affiliated hospital now has only 22 residents, compared to 150 previously.
“The Iwashirooka, Ipe, Irere and Idoani general hospitals each had at least five doctors, but now each hospital has only one doctor. One doctor is on duty a week and continues to provide daily medical care. .A day in the life of a hospital. Is there anything surprising then about why so many avoidable deaths occur in these facilities?
