To minimize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from logistics, Coldplay wants to collaborate with leaders in sustainable transportation and logistics solutions who share our vision and have the tools to make it a reality. With this in mind, we partnered with DHL.
When Coldplay first announced their 2021 Music of the Spheres World Tour, they will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50 percent compared to their previous tour in 2016-17, according to a DHL blog. He promised to reduce it. “Unlike other bands today, with their global reach, Coldplay know a thing or two about the logistics of touring the world on a massive scale and playing in front of millions of people. The band understood that minimizing emissions from cargo and transportation, especially air transport, has a huge impact, which is inevitable on such global travel. It accounts for the majority of effective gas emissions.
“Two years into their world tour, the band has reduced their overall greenhouse gas emissions by an astonishing 59 percent from 2016 to 2017. How did they achieve it? ?”
“We started with a carbon intelligence and monitoring system that goes beyond transportation and logistics to give us a comprehensive view of a tour’s CO2 emissions. This analysis helps us understand where best to optimize operations. We found that transporting equipment by air accounts for 80 percent of the overall burden.
DHL then introduced the GoGreen Plus solution, which proved crucial for Coldplay, the blog added. “GoGreen Plus uses carbon insets, which allow our customers to reduce emissions directly at the source, such as using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in air transport. With SAF purchased through Plus, bands receive emissions reductions through an external verification and certification process.”
Coldplay recently released a statement reporting that direct greenhouse gas emissions in the first two years of the tour have decreased by 59 percent compared to the previous Stadium Tour (2016-17), and that DHL has It added that the company has contributed to minimizing emissions from transportation and transport. “A big part of that is using SAF to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cargo charter flights by 1,078 tonnes, which translates to an 85 percent reduction in fuel lifecycle per flight, resulting in This will result in a 31 per cent reduction in total CO2 emissions across the band.” We achieved our 2023 target and made a significant contribution to reducing air travel emissions across the band.
We have so far booked six charter flights for Coldplay’s 2024 Music of the Spheres World Tour, with more on the way. ”
One of the most appealing elements of a Coldplay concert is the LED wristband that concertgoers receive upon entering the venue, the blog added. “The wristband lights up in time with the music, creating a sea of color that pulsates with every beat. The effect is a shared moment of joy between the audience and the band. During the European leg of the world tour, we used We helped collect the wristbands and transported them between venues in a truck powered by sustainable fuel, further reducing the band’s carbon footprint.”
“We are extremely impressed with DHL’s commitment to sustainability,” said Coldplay band manager Phil Harvey.
DHL and Coldplay’s partnership proves that the music industry can significantly reduce the environmental impact of live music events, the blog added. “We know we have a long way to go, but we also know that by working together, the world’s leading bands and the world’s leading logistics companies can set the stage for a greener future.”
