Coronado musician Matt Heinecke is back and excited to bring the talented young artists of Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) to the stage for their first concert of the year. The CoSA Instrumental Music Fall Recital will be held on Tuesday, October 15th at 6pm at the Black Box Theater, 650 D Avenue.
The recital will feature a string quintet, jazz ensemble, woodwind trio, saxophone trio, and an all-new brass quintet. Several solo pianists will also perform. For many of the students, it’s the first time they’ve performed in a small, intimate setting where they can really connect with an audience, Heinecke said.
“Our focus is to give our students real-life experience as professional musicians, so a small ensemble like this is a tremendous opportunity,” says Heinecke. “Having that kind of experience in high school is very valuable.”
Mr. Heinecke has previously served as President of the Institute of Instrumental Music and has had long relationships with many young artists and is delighted to be working with them again.
“I’ve been teaching many of these students since they were in middle school, and some of them since fourth grade. It’s great to see them level up and take on new challenges. It’s special,” Heinecke said. “I’m excited to be returning as CoSA’s Director of Music!”
Tickets range from $5 to $10 and can be purchased on EventBrite.
The CoSA Conservatory of Instrumental Music focuses on the study of classical and jazz music. Students receive intensive training on their chosen instrument, including wind, percussion, brass, jazz, and string instruments. Students also learn music theory, ear training, jazz theory and improvisation, electronic music skills, and composition and orchestration.
Classes on music history and culture, music technology, and music business will also be offered. Students play the piano, drums, violin, viola, cello, saxophone, electric guitar, tuba, trombone, or any other instrument they wish to learn. CoSA Instrumental Music students are passionate about their music, and many continue to study music at university or continue to perform as adults.
