Following a series of politically charged incidents in recent weeks, prominent leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has called out Governor Siminalai Hubala and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, for Rivers State. He urged reconciliation to restore peace.
Tensions are high in the state following the rivalry between Mr Hubala and Mr Wike, with political rifts between the two parties contributing to increased unrest.
The latest incident occurred on Monday, when some local government offices were set on fire, coinciding with the day newly elected local government officials were scheduled to resume work.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, George expressed concern about the deteriorating situation in the oil-rich state and called for a resolution that prioritizes peace and stability.
The elder statesman also stressed the need for party unity, stressing that Governor Hubala, as the current leader of the PDP in Rivers State, needs the full support of all party members to succeed in his administration.
George said, “Justice, who is the leader of the party in this state?” It’s not the minister, it’s this governor.
“So we have to support him. The great thing is that he made it clear that he had no intention of leaving the party and then the elections were held.”
The PDP leader explained that he and other members of the PDP board have made several attempts to reconcile both Mr. Wike and Mr. Hubala.
He further added, “I spoke to the chairman of the board and then visited Tomihara City with a group of BOT members to try and get his side of the story. After that, after having a discussion with Mr. Wike. He said he should give us an appointment.” I’m coming to see him.
“He told me that he would be ready to meet them when he returned from China. Unfortunately, they were there, but I have never been, so I don’t know what the outcome will be. ”
He maintained that the party’s BOT is responsible for considering such issues when they arise.
