Nell Smith tragically passed away at the young age of 17.
This musical genius is best known for collaborating with the Flaming Lips and recording a Nick Cave cover album. At the time of her untimely death, she was working on her debut solo album.
Nell’s family shared the tragic news in a post on her Instagram page.

“We are heartbroken to hear that our vibrant, talented, unique and beautiful daughter was brutally taken from us on Saturday night,” her family said in a statement. “We are shaken by the news and don’t know what to do or say."
They continued, “She had so much to go through and so much to give to this world, but we are grateful that she was able to experience so much in 17 years. Thank you. She left an indelible mark in our hearts and a gap in our hearts that will never be filled. Hold on tight to your children tonight. Let me figure it out. I’ll scream when I need you.”
The head of Nell's record label also released a statement.
Vera Union President Simon Raymonde said: “We are all shocked to hear of the sudden and tragic passing of our artist and dear friend Nell Smith over the weekend in British Columbia. Nell is only 17 years old and preparing to release her first solo record on Bella Union in early 2025.
The cause of death has not yet been announced. We send our thoughts and condolences to Nell’s loved ones during this difficult time. RIP.
