Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South in the National Assembly, has called on Finance Minister Wale Edun, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and other administrators to stop misleading President Bola Tinubu. .
Mr Ndume said this while reacting to the Federal Government’s plans to upwardly revise the country’s tax system.
He alleged that the economic managers want to make President Bola Ahmed Tinubu look bad in front of Nigerians by proposing tax increases.
He said through a statement: “Before Nigerians seek blood donations, please ensure that you have enough blood in your system.
“I’m not saying people shouldn’t pay taxes, but stop taxing people who are struggling to survive. You’re paying someone 70,000 naira as minimum wage? Suddenly, the price of fuel increased to 1,000 Naira.
“So if you do the math, you keep paying me 30,000 Naira and allow a liter of fuel to go to 100 Naira.
“It is like giving with one hand and receiving with the other. Let the tax authorities focus on those who should pay taxes. For example, in Abuja, if you go around, there are many properties that are not paying taxes. Fortunately, you have Nyesom Wike who stepped up to do something about it.
“People are not paying property taxes. For example, these banks are making huge profits but they are not paying taxes. And they are collecting taxes. Transferring money. Then taxes will be collected.”
