The All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum of the North-Central region has announced that it will cease its agitation and demand for the removal of Abdullahi Ganduje as APC National Chairman ahead of the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The forum has long opposed Ganduje’s appointment, arguing that the post should rightfully belong to the North-Central region in accordance with the party’s revised 2022 constitution.
The forum has previously held various forms of protest, including demonstrations, press conferences and consultations, and has even taken legal action to drag Ganduje to the Federal High Court in Abuja to quash his appointment.
However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, the North Central APC Forum Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazaga, clarified that their opposition was not personal against Ganduje.
Mr. Zazaga emphasized that peace and reconciliation efforts have been launched, reflecting the overall progress of the party and its leadership, and the forum’s commitment to the upcoming NEC conference.
He said, “It has been seven years since this great North Central APC Forum was established. Seven years of formidable struggle and agitation to protect our geopolitical zone. We have led the struggle for political balance.Allah Almighty is Merciful to our people.
“You may recall that when the former National Chairman of our party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, resigned in 2023, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was selected by the NEC National Executive Committee as his successor .
“Immediately after the announcement, we defended the region and insisted that Abdullahi Adamu’s successor should be from the North-Central geopolitical zone in accordance with our party constitution. We held press conferences and organized protests. and filed suit against the National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
“It was a long legal battle, but we believed we would win, but unfortunately the court ruled against us. We were dedicated, persistent, and persistent. Glory be to Allah, for He knows everything.
“Let me put it on record that we have no personal issue with the person of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, he is our National Chairman.
“Our movement is based on our feeling that the National Chairman should have remained in the North-Central Zone even after the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
“We have come to an agreement that the NEC has full authority to make decisions for the party, including the placement of vacant seats in the party and elections. It is our understanding that the NEC elected Mr Ganduje. More importantly, as we prepare for the 2027 general election, another NEC is just around the corner, likely to be decided in the party’s favor. .
“We, the North Central APC Forum, have unanimously agreed to call off the agitation pending the decision of our party’s National Executive Committee.
“This is in line with the principles of fairness, equity and justice to avoid causing unnecessary discontent among political leaders in the North Central region and other leaders of our party.
“We also hope that by stepping down at this juncture, the North-Central geopolitical zone will be given a fair hearing in the NEC, our political leaders will be free to negotiate with the center, and certain I believed it would be profitable.
