The perforated speaker of Mudasir Obasa, the Lagos State House of Representatives, has filed a lawsuit in the Lagos State High Court, seeking his immediate recovery as a speaker.
According to a court application obtained by Peoples Gazette, Obasa alleges that she had resigned illegally on January 13, 2025.
The lawsuit, filed on February 14, 2025, lists current speakers Rasbat Mojisora Melanda and the Lagos State Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assembly Assemb
The legal action follows several failed political meetings between Lagos and Abuja, which aimed to resolve the leadership crisis. Despite President Bora Tinubu’s instructions that Obasa be resurrected, the deadlock persists, and lawmakers reportedly fear possible retaliation from the speakers who were fired up if they were in office.
In his case, Obasa challenged the constitutionality of the plenary session that brought him each of his bullets, claiming it was illegally held during a parliamentary break without proper approval.
The filing states: “The lawsuit challenges the seating and minutes of the Lagos State House of Representatives to sit during the break without reciting the house or empowering others to re-member the house. It was there."
Mr. Obasa alleges that the session violated sections 36, 90(2)(c), 101 and 311 of the 1999 Constitution, violating the rules and standing orders of the Lagos State Assembly, specifically the V Rule. 18 (2) and Order II Rule 9 (I-VIII).
Naija News reports that despite President Tinubu’s firm stance, the leadership crisis has deepened. Tinubu has been unhappy with the delay in Obasa’s revival and recently denied meetings with members of the Lagos APC’s Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and accused him of violating his orders.
However, opposition within the party remains strong. GAC member Muraina Akanbi Taiwan refused to push for Obasa’s recovery, saying: Mr. Tinubu is not the god of the state. ”
