National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, has expressed strong confidence that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labor Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Yunusa attributed this optimism to Obi’s impressive track record and popular support.
Speaking at a Good Governance Symposium organized by the Obedient Movement in the geopolitical South-East region in Onitsha, Anambra State, Yunusa said, “History does not repeat itself. In 2023, Obi’s victory was denied due to electoral fraud. We are determined to ensure fair play this time.”
He added that the movement is committed to pushing for electoral reforms, ensuring adequate staffing at polling stations and insisting on the appointment of the INEC chairman by the people and not the president.
Yunusa also noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had failed to meet the expectations of various regions including the North, East and West, thereby increasing the chances of Obi in 2027.
Professor Pat Utomi, who delivered the keynote address at the symposium, emphasized the need for collective action through movements like the Obedient Movement to bring about meaningful change in Nigeria.
“This movement means sacrifice and together we can transform Nigeria into a new country,” Utomi said.
Convenor of the Peter Obi Support Network and Chairperson of the Symposium Planning Committee, Marge Tochukwu Ezeoke, said the event aimed to set a new direction for the obedience movement in the South-East and support Anambra State. He explained that the aim was to strengthen partnerships with organizations.
The focus was on strategic development and strengthening the movement’s influence.
Labor Party governorship candidates including Chief Minister Valentine Ojigbo, John Nwosu and Ikenna Azomshine also spoke at the event, stressing the importance of transforming Anambra State and promoting good governance.
