The Osun State government has condemned the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Bashir, for calling for the investigation of the Chief of Staff against Osun State Governor Kazeem Akinleye.
Naija News reports that in a statement on Sunday, Bashir told security agencies that Akinleye’s alleged remarks by his chief of staff were “reckless” and could incite violence ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election. I called for an investigation into him.
Mr. Bashir alleged that Mr. Akinleye threatened opposition members and forced them to either support Governor Ademola Adeleke or leave the state.
The APC national secretary warned that such comments could increase political tensions and cause unnecessary violence.
In response, the Osun State Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, accused Bashir of distorting facts and trying to malign Adeleke’s administration.
He dismissed Mr. Bashir’s claims, adding that they were baseless and that Mr. Akinleye’s statements were taken out of context.
“The APC national secretary’s accusation is a desperate attempt to divert attention from the successful governance under Governor Adeleke, who has consistently fulfilled his promises to the people of Osun.
“Governor Adeleke is a man of peace and so is his chief of staff. The APC chief’s statement is nothing but a tactic to paint the administration in a negative light,” Rasheed said.
Rasheed added that Governor Adeleke and his team are focused on governance and have no intention of engaging in violent political tactics.
He further accused the APC of trying to manipulate public opinion by misrepresenting Mr Akinleye’s comments.
“Mr Bashir’s attempt to criminalize calls for peaceful political engagement is a clear sign of APC desperation ahead of the 2026 elections,” Rasheed said.
