The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially launched its campaign in preparation for the local government elections scheduled for October 5th.
At a flag presentation ceremony held in Makurdi on Wednesday, Chairman of the caretaker committee AVM Napoleon Bari, represented by Secretary Osita Ozine, appealed to the party’s chairmanship candidates and city council candidates to actively participate in the election. He urged them to ensure victory for the PDP.
Former Benue State Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, has affirmed the party’s strong presence in the state and expressed confidence in its success in the upcoming local government elections. He indicated that the PDP may take legal action if faced with unwarranted denial of victory.
In a message of support, the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, encouraged PDP members to turn out in large numbers to vote for their candidates, as assured by Benue State Independent. He emphasized that the upcoming election will not be just a selection process, but a real election. Board of Elections (BSIEC).
Additionally, Mr. Dondo Ahire, Mr. Mike Uba and Mr. Alex Ogaba representing Engr. Senate District 3 also expressed similar views in their goodwill messages, urging the party to unite to ensure success in the local government elections. I appealed.
Meanwhile, the Abia State branch of the Labor Party (LP) has called on the people to ignore the announcement by the party’s former chairman, Mr. Sikei Igala, on the sale of nomination forms ahead of the November 2 local government elections in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the state’s acting party chairman, Emmanuel Otti, urged party members to obtain nomination forms from the Labor Party’s secretariat in Umuahia, the state capital.
Otti stressed that all official statements and instructions regarding the party’s activities in the state must come from the Management Committee.
He added that information to the contrary is considered impersonation and should be reported to the appropriate authorities.
“The attention of the Abia State branch of the Labor Party has been drawn to a radio announcement made by former Chairman of the Labor Party in the state, Mr. Sikei Igala, instructing the public where to purchase nomination forms,” the statement read. In preparation for the party’s primaries ahead of the upcoming local government elections in the state.
“The public is hereby enjoined to ignore this unauthorized and misleading announcement, as Mr. Igala’s term has expired along with other members of the Provincial Committee and National Working Committee led by Mr. Julius Habre. Accordingly, the Independent National Electoral Commission suspended Mr. Igala’s recognition.” Based on this, the party established a National Management Committee chaired by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman. .
“The Labor Party in Abia State has no interest in extorting or defrauding the people to obtain money.We therefore want to ensure that the sale of documents and selection of candidates is carried out in a responsible, orderly and peaceful manner. We are prepared to ensure that peace continues after the exercise.”
