The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor and other stakeholders have postponed the October 24 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Naija News reported that key opposition parties have decided on November 28th as the date for the NEC meeting.
The decision to postpone the NEC meeting was made after a nearly four-hour meeting on Tuesday night.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, addressing reporters at the end of a meeting at the Bauchi State Governor Lodge in Asokoro, said the decision authorizes the party to prosecute the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for November 16. He said it was a thing.
He said: “Arising from a consultative meeting of various organs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party resolved as follows.
“The NEC National Executive Committee meeting, originally scheduled for October 24, 2024, has been postponed to November 28, 2024.
“The postponement will ensure that the party faces the Ondo governorship election on November 16, 2024 with the unity and strength required to oust the embattled All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the state. This is to make sure.”
“Reiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the conference urges all members to continue to strengthen the party to effectively fulfill its role as the country’s main opposition party. He urged them to avoid divisive statements that could undermine their efforts in 2027.
“The following organs of the party attended the meeting.
PDP Governors Forum
board of directors
National Working Committee (NWC)
PDP caucus parliamentary leadership and
Former Party Governor Forum”
Naija News reports that despite a prior agreement, party governors and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Akure last week agreed that Mr Damagumu should resign from his post during an upcoming rally. We previously reported that there was a growing movement to extend Damagum’s term beyond the scheduled NEC meeting. .
The agreement was initially seen as a step toward quelling ongoing discord within the party following its loss to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election.
However, according to sources close to the party who spoke to Daily Trust, certain factions within the PDP, led by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Plateau State Governor Caleb Muthofan, are currently holding off on Damagum’s resignation. They say they are working together to do so.
The proposed plan would allow Damagumu to voluntarily resign after the Ondo State gubernatorial election on November 16, creating what his supporters call a “soft landing” for acting chairman.
This new strategy appears to be gaining traction among Damagum supporters as the North Central region faces delays in naming a successor.
