The People’s Democratic Party’s National Reconciliation Committee has revealed plans to work with members of the National Working Committee (NWC) as part of efforts to resolve internal conflicts that threaten the party’s stability.
A member of the committee and former PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West), Mr. Eddie Olafeso, shared this in an interview with Punch on Friday.
Mr. Olafeso disclosed that the Reconciliation Committee, chaired by former Osun State Governor, Mr. Olagunsoye Oyinlola, was also scheduled to meet with stakeholders from the party’s North East region in Bauchi on Saturday.
He said: “I will be meeting with the NWC in the next few days. We are looking at everything. Not just the secretary position, but the health of the party today and how we can get out of the situation we are in. What can you do?
“We must carry out our responsibilities as an opposition party more vibrantly and vividly and provide the alternative that Nigerians so desperately need. We must shoulder the burden of responsibility and bring relief to our people. We’re not on vacation. We’re just working underground and bringing people closer together.
“Reconciliation is a process and not just a shortcut. Our desire to be there for our country, Nigeria, is alive today more than ever. The work of reconciliation is underway. I will be meeting with North East officials in Bauchi on Saturday.”
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, stressed the urgent need for reconciliation to rebuild the party structure ahead of the next elections.
In an interview with Platform, Mr. Ologunagba acknowledged that Mr. Oyinlola’s committee is doing important work towards reconciliation among disgruntled party members.
He said: “The Reconciliation Commission has done a lot of work. I know they have gone to the South West and they are going to other zones. They have done a lot of work and the visit to the South West is a big It was a success.
