The Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday launched efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis within the party.
Naija News reports that infighting within Nigeria’s opposition party, PDP, escalated dramatically last week as the National Working Committee (NWC) grappled with a spate of suspensions of senior members.
The crisis has been smoldering since the 2023 general election, and has recently taken a more rapid turn as divisions and sectarian divisions have intensified.
Recall that the Peoples Democratic Governors Forum (PDP-GF) directed its rival members to return to their previous positions.
Chairman of the forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, announced this after the state governors’ meeting concluded early Tuesday morning.
However, the decision by the PDP senatorial group to resolve the crisis came after a closed-door meeting that lasted over three hours and was chaired by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro.
Senator Moro, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, told reporters after the meeting that an expanded committee, including former PDP governors and prominent party leaders, had been set up to engage with disgruntled members. I made it.
He explained that the committee is tasked with identifying grievances and facilitating peaceful resolution, and will then submit its findings to help the party move forward.
