Acting national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umaru Damagumu, says the party has developed the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, and contributed to his political success. Ta.
Damagum said this while responding to Kwankwaso’s claim that the PDP is dead. He maintained that Kwankwaso should be grateful to the party despite problems within the party.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa station on Tuesday, Damagum expressed hope that Kwankwaso would rejoin the party and contribute to its revival.
According to him, “It (PDP) nurtured him (Mr Kwankwaso) and contributed greatly to his political success. We hope he can return to the party and contribute to the revitalization of the party. I still have this hope that we can work together to address the injustices of our current government.
“Every member has the right to express their opinion. But I would like to remind him (Mr Kwankwaso) that when he left the party in 2015, despite the challenges he faced at the time, , PDP was not “dead.” If the party was able to survive his departure then, why would anyone think it is irrelevant now? ”
Damagum also questioned the impact of Kwankwaso’s move to other political platforms.
He added: “Senator Kwankwaso may have left the party, but how many states did he win with his new party?” The facts speak for themselves. For more than two decades, the PDP has remained strong and maintained its identity, producing governors and legislators in every region of the country.
“Even if four parties merge without the Democratic Party, they cannot win an election. We have seen this development over and over again. Where are those parties now? Alliances with other parties also have the desired result. Not brought.
“I accept that some of his claims about the challenges we were facing at the time were valid. As national vice-chairman (northern side) at the time, my authority was limited, but we Unfortunately, those efforts failed, as he himself admitted in an earlier interview.
“PDP played an important role in his political career and shaped him into the leader he is today. We hope he returns to the party and addresses the injustices faced by Nigerians under the current administration.” We continue to hope that you will join us to do so.”
