In the wake of the crisis rocking the party, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) have suspended the party’s acting national chairman, Amb. Mr. Umaru Damagum and Secretary Samuel Anyanwu on suspicion of anti-party activities.
The decision to suspend the two national officers was taken at an emergency meeting held by a majority of NWC members, which concluded early Friday morning.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, confirmed the development. He issued a statement at 3:18 a.m. announcing the NWC’s decision.
The statement reads: Mr. Elijah Damagum and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC regarding their letters to the Court of Appeal against the party’s position in the case involving, among others, 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who vacated their seats. upon withdrawal to.
“The NWC condemns this anti-party activity of the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary, which is in flagrant violation of the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and its oath.
“As a result, the NWC suspended the Ambassador under Articles 57, 58 and 59 of the PDP Constitution. Mr. Ilya Damagumu and Senator Samuel Anyanwu were appointed as the party’s Acting National Chairman and National Secretary respectively. and referred it to the National Disciplinary Commission for further action.
“In the meantime, the two officials have been suspended from all meetings, activities and programs of the NWC pending the conclusion of the investigation by the National Disciplinary Commission.”
The party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) had previously ordered all party members to endeavor to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee if summoned.
Chairman of the Central Bank, Senator Adolphus Wabara, called on the NWC at its 78th board meeting to speed up action and ensure that the party’s National Executive Committee NEC convenes as scheduled on October 24.
