Former Obedient Movement supporter and international journalist Donu Kogbara says 2023 Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi can no longer live up to expectations.
According to her, Peter Obi mobilized many Nigerians and gathered many supporters for the 2023 elections, but his pedigree plummeted after the elections.
Mr Cogbara said Labor was like a sinking ship and politicians had to fight to survive, given recent high-profile defections from the party.
In an interview with Arise News, she said that even though Obi remains a good person, he has not demonstrated the kind of opposition leadership that has garnered a lot of support from youth and other Nigerians in the run-up to the 2023 elections. He claimed that it was not possible. election.
Kogbara said many supporters of the obedience movement were disappointed in Obi.
In her words: “Well, Labor should say goodbye to those five MPs, because rats have always escaped from sinking ships. They have the right to do what they want, within the law. Yes, but I don’t know if that’s true. But to me, the Labor Party is clearly in crisis, with all the drama surrounding their chairmanship and a traitor who was under attack from outside forces. there was.
“I can’t stand people without honor. I mean, there was that whole crisis, and then there were other events that made it difficult for Labor to function as a proper political party. But what depresses me the most is It’s not the actions of any senator or congressman that causes this, it’s Peter Obi himself.
“There was never a man who was so brilliant and inspirational, who almost overnight created a movement and galvanized young people, intellectuals, and anyone who had even a modicum of faith in his bloodstream. I just don’t understand why they admired him, at least to some degree, even though they weren't necessarily going to vote for him for whatever reason, from top to bottom.
“As far as I’m concerned, he’s like a firework that turned into a wet squib. He’s gotten very rich. All I see is him saying nasty things all over the TV and , donating boreholes, etc. That’s all good. He’s still a good guy, but where is the leader that the opposition desperately needs? No.”
Kogbala added that not only Obi but the entire Nigerian opposition movement, including Atiku Abubakar, was not doing enough to jeopardize the government of President Bola Tinubu.
She further blamed Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, she reserved most of the blame to Obi, labeling him as disappointed without any aggression at the current government’s poor performance and failures.
“I condemn the entire opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for being allowed to derail by my dear friend Nyesom Wike. Incidentally, when I met him a few months ago, “If I were PDP Mandarin, I would have thrown you out by now,” he said. I also blame Atiku Abubakar for spending too much time as a Dubai-type tycoon and failing to effectively counter the government.
“And I blame Peter Obi more than anything because Peter was a shining star and so many people, myself included, were committed to him in spirit. is so disappointing that I am no longer submissive, which means no aggression.
“Government is no good. And the only good thing that I think President Bola Tinubu has done is that since Tinubu took office, I have noticed that there have been no herdsmen shenanigans, so the herdsmen It was his job to keep it at bay.
“But there is so much that is wrong with this government, contracts being signed without due process, economic collapse, rampant inflation, widespread hunger and disillusionment, and yet there is no serious punch in the arm from Peter Obi. It’s like I can’t hear some things,” she posted.
Mr. Kogbara said Peter Obi was too mild-mannered and had disappointed many submissives with his actions. She argued that as star opposition leader, the former LP presidential candidate could do more.
“He’s too gentle. Yes, he has a lot going for him, but there’s a lot for him to aim for, and if he does that, he’ll have the support of a huge number of people. I’m not just speaking for myself, but for the hundreds of obedients and former obediers who are disappointed. We don’t want a weak opposition leader. He is the star of the show. But the truth is, Peter should do more. He’s a star athlete and he’s not doing enough,” she said.
