Some Labor party leaders loyal to Labor national chairman Julius Habre say 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi is involved in a crisis rocking the party and should be sanctioned.
Naija News reports that this follows the Court of Appeal’s ruling confirming Mr. Abre as national chairman of the LP, saying that the internal crisis rocking the party will be resolved well in advance of the 2027 general elections. The decision was made in response to the president’s optimistic view of the future.
Mr. Abre declared his readiness to reconcile with Mr. Peter Obi, Abia State Governor, Mr. Alex Otti and other aggrieved party leaders.
But some Abule supporters have warned that if the former Anambra State governor continues to destabilize and factionalize the party, it could face its worst electoral defeat in the 2027 presidential election. .
In an interview with Punch, one of the leaders of the party, Blessing Elaigou, said that the LP was in the past due to Peter Obi’s lack of leadership and his management committee filing unnecessary lawsuits against the party. He said it had been stagnant for a year.
Mr. Elaigou, who is the convener of the All Labor Party Experts and Stakeholders Alliance, therefore urged the party leadership that if Peter Obi takes the party to the Supreme Court after his victory in the Court of Appeal, , warned them to completely sever ties with the party.
He said, “Obi and the current Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, convened an illegal stakeholder meeting in Umuahia in September last year to remove the Abure-led executive and handpick his cronies, including Senator Nenadi Usman. I want you to remember that.” Senator Darlington Nwokocha were sworn in as chairman and secretary respectively.
“However, INEC refused to recognize them, so they were sued in both the lower and appellate courts and lost. Peter Obi, as speculated, wants to destroy the party before moving on to another political party. If he does, he must know that he is destroying himself.
“What on earth did Habre and his executives do to deserve such a barb? Mr. Obi is unhappy with his departure from the PDP, and Mr. Habre has given him a platform in the Labor Party. provided.
“Given the momentum of the 2023 election, what a good leader would have done is consolidate what has been achieved and prepare for 2027.”
Also, a member of the Obedient Movement, Cornel Max-Nduaghibe, urged Peter Obi to reconsider his position on the party and not kill the momentum he exploited in the 2023 general elections.
Max Nduagbe implored all LP members to take immediate action to address internal conflicts and build a strong and united party.
“I encourage all party members to use their influence to put aside their differences and work towards common goals,” he said. We must present a united front to succeed. To build a stronger party, we must prioritize transparency, accountability, and inclusion.
“This includes fostering open communication between party members, ensuring all voices are heard and promoting a culture of respect and tolerance.
“I call on you and all LP members to take immediate action to address our internal conflicts. To build a stronger and more united party that can effectively serve the Nigerian people. Let’s work together. Now is the time to come together.”
In response, Peter Obi’s media aide, Umar Ibrahim, said he was not prepared to exchange teasing words or engage in a proxy war with the Abre camp.
He said: “His Excellency Peter Obi is not interested in endless drama and name-calling, so we will not respond to Julius Habre’s shenanigans.”
