The Edo State Government should refrain from making false claims and assertions to the associates of the incoming Governor of the State, Senator Monday Okpeboro, which are aimed at creating the impression that there are two Governors in Edo State. It recommended waiting until November 12 to begin governing.
Recall that Okpeboro had sounded the alarm over shady loan deals and alleged looting of government assets by officials of the outgoing government of Godwin Obaseki.
With less than a month left for the return, Okpebolo has warned banks and financial institutions to stop approving loans to the outgoing government.
The lawmaker expressed concern over reports of loans being obtained under suspicious headlines and widespread looting of government property, including vehicles, furniture and paraphernalia.
Reacting, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, said in a statement that recent statements by the so-called Special Assistant to the Governor-elect are false.
He said the statement was not only disjointed and full of fake news, but also contained baseless speculation aimed at weakening the government.
He said, “A self-styled special assistant, unknown to everyone, has issued a statement giving the impression that there are two governors in Edo State. Assuming he is indeed speaking on behalf of Governor-elect Monday Okpeboro. His imprudence, then, is most reprehensible: he made outlandish claims, which cannot be substantiated because they are blatant lies.
“It’s completely understandable that these elements are competing for jobs, but there has to be some kind of clarity of mind and not resorting to fanciful, amateurish shtick."
“The next government will begin on November 12, 2024, but since there cannot be two governors of Edo State at the same time, the person representing the next government should wait for this date to begin governing. ” he added.
