Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), said the 27 stranded Rivers members are no longer members of the state House of Assembly.
Eze maintained that the crisis rocking Rivers State over the leadership of the House of Assembly continues as some factions are using the judiciary to display power and power.
He shared his frustration in a statement Friday.
Naija News reports that the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday challenged the judgment of Justice James Omotosho that invalidated the 2024 Rivers State Budget passed by pro-Fubara MPs after the camp was cleared, It was reported that Governor Hubala’s appeal was dismissed. Among the 27 Democratic Party members.
The court also stayed the presentation and passage of the budget bill, as well as ordering Governor Hubara to resubmit it to the House of Representatives of Mr. Amawfulu and defected PDP members who defected to the APC.
In response, Eze argued that the court had not ruled on the legitimacy of the 27 members who were discharged.
“I would like to state in the strongest terms and boldly that the Court of Appeal did not rule on the legitimacy of the defections of the embattled MPs. The fact remains that the Travelers are no longer MPs, and Hubala will not give them any legitimacy by representing the Budget before them.
“So, those celebrating should go ahead and celebrate on a matter that is dead on arrival because the plan to plunge Rivers State into darkness will not be fulfilled,” Eze explained.
While advising the Rivers State government to appeal the Court of Appeal’s judgment, Mr. Eze also urged the judiciary to refrain from “many moves by self-serving politicians who seek to drag the judiciary into a quagmire.” “I appealed to him,” he said.
“I assure the court that it will rule out technicalities, give sound and time-tested decisions, and reject any conspiracy to derail this country’s nascent democracy and expose it to public condemnation. I request you to stop it.
“Governor Hubala must stand firm and not succumb to intimidation, betrayal and judicial harassment from Wike and his opponents.”
“If Rivers residents and Nigerians in general fail to wrest Rivers State from Wike’s firm control at this juncture, there will be drastic consequences.
“Let me state without hesitation that President Bola Tinubu has a duty to ensure that Rivers State is not destabilized by the authoritarian tendencies of one man.
“By withdrawing the counter-affidavit and the process he filed in the suit, Governor Hubala did no wrong in following the directives of President Tinubu.
“Or is President Tinubu’s directive mischievous and deceitful, as the withdrawal of proceedings previously filed by Mr Hubala was the basis for the Appeals Committee to dismiss the case?
“Any plot to set Rivers State on fire or impeach the governor will be resisted,” he added.
