The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi over his recent comments on the administration of President Bola Tinubu and his call for protests over current economic challenges.
According to a report by Naija News, Amaechi in an interview with Igbere TV criticized the lack of positive response from the people, especially the youth, regarding the rising cost of living.
Amaechi, who previously served as Rivers State governor, said he expected a surge in protests from youths demanding action against the worsening economic situation.
However, the APC in a statement through its National Public Relations Secretary, Felix Molka, said Mr. Amaechi’s comments were insensitive, gross, irresponsible and unpatriotic.
Mr. Moruka said such statements were made by one of Nigeria’s longest-serving and highest-ranking political appointees, who served two terms as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two terms as Governor and two terms as Minister of Transport. He expressed his disappointment in one thing.
He said Amaechi was also angry, along with opposition leaders who had hoped to serve in the government, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.
The APC chief also questioned Amaechi’s claims about theft by those in power. He urged them to focus on the crisis afflicting Rivers State instead of trying to bring about anarchy in the country.
The statement read: “For almost all of his adult life, Amaechi has been highly dependent on national resources, greedy beneficiaries of government patronage, and key participants in the generational devastation of our nation’s economy.Nigeria. Attempts to trick people into a web of false sympathy and incitement to violence are hypocritical, provocative and dangerous.
“If those in power “stole money” as Mr. Amaechi mischievously claimed, then this comes less than two years after they “stole” power as Speaker, Governor and Minister for over 24 years. And why can’t he afford to “buy diesel”?
“The only real anger that Amaechi and other naysayers like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso feel is that they are not in government today. It was a decision taken by the electorate, the ultimate political power in Nigeria.Nigerians are very sensitive, insightful and modest, and the economic discomfort that comes with inevitable reforms in the regime is temporary. Nigerians are mindful that the benefits will be paltry compared to the lasting changes that Amaechi and his tribesmen hope to achieve. They will not be induced to take back through street violence what they have handed over to the regime through the ballot paper, as they have done in the past.
“One would expect that Mr. Amaechi would continue to be busy resolving the devastating crisis in Rivers State, which he once ruled. We chose to do so. It is irresponsible and clearly unpatriotic to weaponize protests and exploit citizens’ economic grievances for selfish political ends, as these partisan tribesmen are doing. .
“We urge Nigerians to ignore the calls for anarchy by Amaechi and his partisan tribesmen, be patient and continue to support President Tinubu’s bold efforts to transform our economy once and for all. I ask.”
