Nigeria’s former Vice President and PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has endorsed Rivers State Governor Siminalai Hubara in the upcoming local government elections in the state.
In a post on his verified handle X, Abubkar praised Hubala’s courage and said the planned local government elections were an affirmation of constitutionalism and the rule of law.
“Tomorrow’s local government elections in Rivers State will be a beacon of hope and bring new vitality to our constitutional democracy, which is the core of our governance,” he said.
“These elections are an opportunity to uphold the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy and breathe life into our nation’s fundamental principles.
“Undoubtedly, this election resonates as a powerful affirmation of constitutionalism and the rule of law, a cause that should rally the support of all true defenders of democracy.
“This is a call to all people who believe in the democratic process to resolutely defend the right of the people to choose their leaders freely and fairly.
“I commend Governor Siminalai Fubara (@SimFubaraKSC) for his courageous leadership in ensuring the conduct of local government elections in Rivers State.
“I also encourage all residents to exercise their civic duty with peace and purpose as they vote to elect those to leadership roles at the grassroots level.
“It is my unwavering belief that the democratic process is sacred and that through it people must be empowered to elect leaders in every community and shape their own future.”
