Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Austin Okpala, has said the results of the local government elections held in Rivers State on Saturday are an indication that the people of the state are fed up with tyranny and dictatorship.
Naija News reports that the PDP leader said this while responding to a question on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Sunday.
Mr. Okpara said the people of Rivers State were liberated and happy with the successful election.
He said, “This foreshadows that River people are tired of oppression, River people are tired of imperialism, River people are tired of dictatorship.
“The people on the river feel liberated. The people on the river are happy, they’re counting to vote and they’re excited.”
Mr Okpara also accused Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, of trying to control the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
He further commended Governor Siminalai Hubala for holding local government elections in the state against all odds despite the withdrawal of PDP and APC.
He added: “Humans want to control the APC structure, but do they also want to control the PDP structure? In the state?” How do you explain that? he asked.
“The difference now is we have a governor who wants to serve but doesn’t want to be served. Not a governor whose mentor was Adolf Hitler or (Donald) Trump.”
