Nigeria’s Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has denied allegations that he is working against the interests of the Yoruba people.
The lawmaker said that some media reports that his legislative activities in the National Assembly were working against the Yoruba people were baseless, false and baseless.
Mr. Bamidele maintained that since he was elected to the National Assembly, he has faithfully served the interests of Ekiti Central, Ekiti State, the South-West and by extension Nigeria.
Through a statement released to Naija News, the lawmaker boldly encouraged anyone or groups to come forward with audio or video evidence to support the allegations against him.
He lamented that it was a mistake for some media outlets to attribute the statement to him, claiming that “if we allowed regional system in Nigeria, we would have automatically given Biafra to the easterners.” did.
He denied ever making such statements and said the false allegations were an attempt to promote himself against the Yoruba and other ethnic groups in the federation.
He said that during the Senate retreat on the review of the 1999 Constitution held on September 27-28, 2024, he never mentioned local government in line with the 1960 and 1963 Constitutions.
“That allegation is far from the truth. I have never talked about a return to local government in any forum. I have also said that “granting Nigeria local government will automatically give Biafra to the easterners.” I didn’t claim that it would happen.
“This is complete misinformation and deliberate fake news, and in no way represents my worldview on the federal governance structure,” Bamidele said.
However, Bamidele warned that he will not hesitate to legally challenge individuals and organizations that fabricate and disseminate fake news against his person or office, adding that the local government’s proposal does not exist. he claimed.
