The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has said that President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, is eligible to contest for the Lagos State governorship.
Naija News reported that Mr Olawande made the claim during an appearance on the podcast “Mic On” amid mounting speculation about Mr Tinubu’s possible run as governor in 2027.
Olawande directly addressed the rumors and emphasized that Seyi is ready to lead.
“He is not too young to be governor," the minister said, adding that Seyi has the necessary qualifications and training to excel in public office.
“He is a well-trained young man who has trained many young people even before his father became president,” Olawande noted. He further highlighted Mr. Tinubu’s commitment to leadership and his desire to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
Speculation about Seyi Tinubu’s possible candidacy for Lagos governorship began in 2024 with support from groups such as the Confederation of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL).
Despite this support, Seyi Tinubu has remained silent on the issue, refusing to confirm or deny any political ambitions.
The Minister of Youth Development was quick to clarify that the younger Tinubu was not the one leading the campaign.
“Mr. Seyi is not the person organizing a campaign to become the next governor of Lagos State,” Olawande said, separating him from ongoing advocacy efforts by various groups.
