Perhaps it has happened to all of us. You’re on a long flight and realize you haven’t downloaded any music to listen to. Spotify is helping to make this a problem of the past with a new offline backup feature for premium users.
Unique and evolving playlists

Rolling out globally starting this week, the feature uses queued and recently streamed tracks to create playlists that are automatically available when you don’t have an internet connection. This feature is available on iOS and Android Spotify apps, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can use it while driving in areas with poor or no cell phone service.
Playlists let you filter and sort songs by artist, mood, or genre. It continues to evolve as you listen to different music.
To see your playlist, you must have recently streamed at least 5 songs and enabled offline viewing. This can be done in the Spotify app by going to (Settings & Privacy) > (Storage). Make sure offline listening is turned on. In the same menu, you can delete any currently downloaded songs and clear the cache to free up storage on your smartphone.
If you’re offline, your playlists will appear automatically. Add offline backup playlists to your library for easy access even when you’re connected to the Internet. Also, make sure your Spotify app is updated to the latest version.
Making Spotify even better
Sure, it’s easy to download Spotify songs for offline listening, but many users forget about it. I was on a long 5 hour flight recently and completely forgot to download my Spotify songs. I’m looking forward to seeing offline backup rolled out and plan to take advantage of it soon.
Even though I pay extra every month, I always switch between Spotify and Apple Music when listening to music. I love how Apple Music makes it easy to enjoy my Apple devices, but Spotify still recommends the best music when I want to listen to new music. Now that Spotify has an offline backup feature, I’ll probably end up using it more often than Apple Music.
