National leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuli Ahmed, has hinted at the possibility of major political parties forming a coalition to contest President Bola Tinubu’s expected re-election in the 2027 elections.
Naija News reported that President Tinubu is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr. Ahmed made this statement in Akure, Ondo State during the campaign launch of the NNPP for the next governorship election scheduled for November 16.
He disclosed that discussions were underway to prevent the APC from remaining in power beyond 2027.
He also warned political parties to be wary and resist attempts by the APC to sow discord within the party.
However, the NNPP leader did not reveal which other parties were participating in coalition talks.
Mr. Ahmed added that if coalition talks fail, the NNPP is ready to proceed on its own.
“For the 2027 elections, our door is open to any coalition government. And if that doesn’t work out, our party can stand alone,” he said. said.
He also expressed concern over the possibility of election manipulation by the APC in the upcoming Ondo State gubernatorial election, stressing the importance of NNPP supporters voting and protecting their votes.
“There are concerns that the ruling party will try to manipulate the election in its favor because it does not want strong opposition," Ahmed said.
He emphasized the need for reliable party agents to protect votes before, during and after elections.
Mr. Ahmed presented the party flag to the NNPP governorship candidate, Mr. Olugbenga Edema, and appealed to the opposition parties to prevent internal interference that could lead to discord.
He stressed that it is critical for the opposition to maintain unity and integrity, adding that if the opposition fails to remain united, the ruling APC could turn Nigeria into a one-party state before the 2027 elections. I was warned that it was sexual.
